About Bedias Creek Wildlife Management Area

Bedias Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA) spans over 5,800 acres in Grimes County, eastern Texas. Owned and managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the area protects a variety of ecosystems including pine forests, hardwood bottomlands, wetlands, and the winding Bedias Creek itself. This diverse natural environment supports abundant wildlife such as white-tailed deer, eastern turkey, squirrels, waterfowl, and a range of fish species. The area is historically linked to early 20th-century forestry activity, with some timber harvesting influencing habitat management in recent decades. Recreationally, Bedias Creek WMA attracts visitors who enjoy hunting during regulated seasons, fishing in creek waters, birdwatching, and hiking on limited designated trails. The creek corridor provides prime habitat for waterfowl and an excellent setting for spotting migratory birds. The area's diverse terrain, from upland pine stands to bottomland hardwoods, appeals to nature photographers and outdoor enthusiasts interested in exploring varied habitats on foot. Facilities are minimal, emphasizing a rugged outdoor experience with self-service parking and no developed campgrounds, making it popular with hunters and day visitors who appreciate the wilderness feel close to the Houston metropolitan area. Protection of this area helps conserve native Texas forest and riparian ecosystems while providing critical wildlife habitat and public access for outdoor activities.
